  • What is the difference between the DR58 and DR82?

      1. The DR58 uses a heated diode sensor. The heated diode’s advantage is that it detects absolute concentration levels so it can be held on a leak and will continue to beep. It is also initially very sensitive. Its major disadvantages are that the sensor becomes less sensitive over life, eventually needing replacement and it is more sensitive to some refrigerants than others.
      2. The DR82 uses an infrared (IR) sensor. It detects a CHANGE in concentration, so the wand must keep moving. The main advantages of the Fieldpiece IR sensor are that its sensitivity will remain the same over the life of the instrument, the sensor will last the lifetime of the instrument, it will not trigger on humidity or on oil, and it has nearly the same sensitivity to most refrigerants. The main disadvantage of infrared sensors is their sensitivity to mechanical disturbances.
  • Why won’t it stay on / why won’t it charge?

    • If no sensor is installed or the installed sensor is broken when the unit is turned on an alarm will sound and the unit will turn off.

  • How long does the sensor last?

    • If it seems like your leak detector is no longer picking up leaks or is not as sensitive as it was when you first bought it, try replacing the filter. This should fix the issue. If this does not fix the issue try replacing the sensor

  • How do I order a new sensor?

      1. Contact your local Fieldpiece supplier and have them order part number “RHD1”
      2. Carefully insert the new sensor and replace snoot. The sensor can be inserted in two different configurations, either of which will allow the DR58 to function correctly.
  • Where is the sensor located?

    • To install or replace the sensor, make sure the unit is turned off. Then, unscrew the snoot on the DR58 and if replacing gently pull the sensor from the base.

  • Is the DR58 A2L compatible?
